Cooking is fun and all, but sometimes I ponder way too long on what the next meal will be. My husband isn’t a picky eater and neither is our son. I myself can be to an extent. For instance, I prefer lunch to be different from dinner and leftovers are consumed no more than 2 consecutive days for me. We consume a lot of vegetables and seafood, however my boys are HUGE CARNIVORES and eat A LOT! I get it, I have a man and a little man and they burn far more calories faster than I would. So yes, their metabolisms are through the roof. It just never dawned on me how much more I would have to cook or how much more frequently I would have to cook when adding a son to our family tree. Let me tell you, Isaiah can EAT! He is just like his father except sometimes I wonder if he eats more than his father does? Hmmm…. Anyways, the kid has an appetite annnnnd I ain’t mad at it because he eats just about everything. And as a foodie myself, I can appreciate that.
Last week I noted in my phone a “Weekly Dinner Menu” to help stay afloat and creative with meals that would cater to all three of us. For the most part we have our regular mains and sides we like to rotate throughout each week but we also like to try out new recipes. I also have to consider toddler-friendly meals which sometimes can be a challenge when my husband I are craving something with shells, tiny bones, and lots of spice (which Isaiah handles well because his Momma is Cajun and his Daddy is Nigerian– go figure). I think this “Weekly Dinner Menu” may be a long-term thing in our home. Here’s what I came up with for this week:
:: Weekly Food Menu ::
Sunday: Seafood Gumbo and rice
Monday: Ground turkey, sweet potatoes, spinach, and mushrooms
Tuesday: Chicken Tacos (also ground turkey leftovers)
Wednesday: Special dinner for my husbands birthday (he doesn’t know the menu yet but ya gurl is throwing down in the kitchen!)
Thursday: Salmon, brown rice, spinach, and mushrooms
Friday: Fish/Veggie burgers and potato wedges
Saturday: Seafood pasta and Garden Salad
Yesterday I meal prepped Monday and Tuesday’s menu so that I could have room in my schedule to do other things. So we had Taco Tuesday on a Monday! It was a yummy spread! I found it interesting how much our son has matured as I watched him eat his preparation of Taco Tuesday. From the looks of it, Taco Tuesday just might be one of his favorites !
Creating a food menu for the week has made things a lot easier for us. I found it convenient when grocery shopping and planning when to cook these meals as some days I have to cook them in advance when I have a long stretch in the clinic. Im curious to know, do you use a food menu or any sort? If so, what are some meals you rotate weekly? What are some new meals you plan to add and experiment with this week or this month if you make a monthly menu? Does anyone have input on the menu or do you create it yourself?
I hope you all remain healthy and safe! Lots of love and positive vibes!
Love this!! I already planned for tonight. I’m doing Taco Tuesday too! I will def try planning a weekly menu, such a great way to save time & be prepared. Great read!
