Turks & Caicos: The Perfect Summer Getaway

Turks & Caicos: The Perfect Summer Getaway

BEACH me please! In this post I’m sharing all about our trip to Turks + Caicos.

Shortly after Isaiah’s 2nd birthday party, the travel bug crept on Tony and I. We were beginning to feel burnt out from work and life in general. So, we figured let’s take our toddler and go somewhere we’d ALL enjoy. Miami was the winner until we got notification the world was opening up more with some handle on COVID, thanks to the vaccines I’m sure.

Well, Miami was cut out after seeing how overpopulated it became (for our liking) with the spring breakers, so we began looking elsewhere. We knew we wanted a beach for Isaiah to experience for the first time and as we did our research, Turks and Caicos was IT! We were highly attracted to the crystal blue beaches,  many reservations offering privacy, and their numbers were only at 30 COVID cases! So we booked our trip immediately and began planning!

The excitement was at its highest. I imagined our baby boy sprinting in the sand until he felt the beach water touch his itty bitty toes and Tony and I laughing! Unfortunately, we had to make a tough decision. . . Isaiah had to stay with our parents due to our trip being so soon and not being able to retrieve his passport in time. We really hated we had to leave him, but family and friends reminded us how we’d still get to enjoy our trip without him. When we thought about it, we hadn’t been on a trip with just the 2 of us since 2019, 8 months after Isaiah was born! For us, that’s A LONG TIME!

We soon realized how much easier and faster planning our itinerary became without having to factor in Isaiah. It made room for sleeping in (even though that’s 7/8 am for us lol), moving around quicker, and being able to relax without chasing a toddler around. Honestly, we are grateful we experienced our first visit to Turks and Caicos alone as we needed extended intimate time without having to worry about our big boy. Plus, we got a feel for the island  and will be more comfortable when all three of us return one day!

Let The Fun Begin

Our stay was with H20 Lifestyle Resort which opened in November 2020 so it was fairly new! Its located on a private beach which we really appreciated as it was quiet and not crowded. It also had many amenities including BBQ pits, a gym, basketball court, access to water sports and boat trips and more. No matter what time we went out for a swim or to lounge on the beach or in the pool, there were always cabanas or tanning beds available. We opted for the private villa which included a full kitchen, bar, island seating, dinner table, living room, master suite, patio with a breakfast table, and a master room patio with lounging beds. Nonetheless, we were far impressed by the layout and views we’d be indulging in over the next days!

The day was still very young so we quickly changed and spent the entire day soaking in the sun, margaritas, R&B hits on our speaker, and the crystal clear beach water. It was just what we needed to launch our trip!

Our night ended with a romantic dinner at Infiniti Restaurant located on a resort. The ambiance and food were exquisite! I had the miso cod, bokchoy, and spritzer. Tony had the salmon, noodles, and Moscow mule. All was very tasteful!

O and of course, finally that surprise cake and champagne for Tony’s birthday!

Beach, Good Eats, and More BEACH

We woke up the next day, ready to catch the sunrise. You would think since Isaiah was in the states with grandparents while we were on vacation we’d sleep in, but, NOPE. We were both early risers excited to be on vacation! The sun rises pretty early in Turks and we had front row seats from our bedroom. I think it was our favorite part of our suite.

Before we knew it, we were back on the beach and baking in the sun! We rarely end up in a pool if we’re staying on a beach. We don’t have easy access to nice beaches like Turks back home in Houston so we fully indulge from sunrise to sunset, if we can!

After baking in the sun for hours, we left our resort for a trip in town to The Terrace on Grace Bay restaurant. We had the jerk chicken and coconut shrimp for appetizers. For entrees, I had the fried snapper, rice and peas, and coleslaw. Tony had the fish tacos. While everything was delicious, I have to mention my favorites about our order— the dip to the coconut shrimp and the coleslaw as both were surprisingly spicy and flavorful!

After exploring our second restaurant in Turks, we learned rather quickly that you won’t need to waste a lot of money on alcoholic beverages because one or two will be enough!  Yaaassss to heavy hand on the liquor!

We returned to our resort and, yup, we spent more long hours on the beach! The water was chill when first entering but we sunk ourselves in each time to warm up. Once we did, it was a challenge to convince ourselves to get out. Ill be honest, Turks has the most refreshing, clearest, and salt water I’ve swam in!

Later that evening, we had a private chef cook us dinner! Our resort representatives were kind enough stock up on requested groceries for us prior to our arrival but we had no intentions on cooking. We meant every bit of taking a break! So while we “ooo” and “ahhh” over the aromas from the kitchen, we sat on our balcony conversing, reading our books, and playing card games!

Brunch, Beach, and In-Town Treats

We woke up ready to once again, watch the sunrise and hit the beach again! Our chef had returned to whip up brunch for us and it was more than enough fuel to last us until lunch!

Our resort had everything we needed, except room service or restaurants, so we really never wanted to leave. We even contemplated having food delivered for lunch, but we wanted to explore outside a tad more. In doing so, We ended up at da Conch Shack for lunch and then Island Scoop for ice cream.

We returned to our resort and you already now what we did! I mean how could you not with these views and this WATER!

We found ourselves back at Infiniti (rare occasion for us when we travel) as we wanted to try more things on their menu!

This time Tony had the lamb entree and I, got the miso cod again because it was that GOOD! Funny thing, when we left the first time we mentioned the steak dish for two. After we had eaten all of our food on the second visit, the table of ladies across from us began with kale salads, then loads of steaks for 2 came out with fires and bok choy! We both liked at each other and were drooling over their food! If only we had remembered we would’ve gone that route. Next time!

I woke up the next morning to my kind and thoughtful husband throwing down in the kitchen! I guess steak was on his mind after last night lol so we had steak and eggs, bread, fruit, and OJ! He set us up on our balcony and we ate as the sun continued to burst in bright rays.

And you ALREADY know where that led us! The BEACH!

Some things to note about Turks and Caicos:

  1. Everything is expensive because everything is being imported.
  2. For us Houstonians driving 30 minutes or more to get to places is normal, however, it’s not for residents of Turks! They’re used to getting from point A to B in 10-15 mins. So taxi or personal chauffeur  is not cheap. But it was nice to arrive at our destinations in 15 mins or less. Rental car options are available if you want to take that route. Keep in mind they drive on the left hand side of the rode.
  3. There are 8 beaches that make up the island with countless resorts, villas, etc,. so learn about them and choose the best one for you.
  4. Most restaurants are closing around 9:30/10pm due to COVID so plan reservations and travel time accordingly.
  5. The residents are very friendly, welcoming, and will make you feel right at home.
  6. A fish fry is usually held on Thursdays however they temporarily discontinued it during our visit due to COVID. However, a local informed us August maybe when it returns.
  7. Some restaurants we wanted to try but didn’t get to are: Seven, Las Brios, Magnolia, Stelle, Mango Reef, and Omar’s Beech Hut.
  8. WARNING: You WILL NOT want to leave!
